MA student Tong Zhao has been awarded a small grant from the International Studies Fund of Pitt's University Center for International Studies. This funding is awarded to students who conduct original research on international issues. As a result of this funding, Tong will be travelling to several cities in Vietnam this summer, collecting data on Chinese loanword usage in Vietnam. From this data, she hopes to determine the possible social factors involved in the decreasing use of Chinese loanwords.
