Irvis

Welcome Dominique "Domi" Corley, Irvis Fellow

Domi joins the Department in the fall as a Ph.D. student. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Cornell University in 2014 with double majors in Linguistics and Sociology and a minor in Inequality Studies. Her linguistic interests lie at the intersection of dialect, race, and the US Legal System.  In particular, Domi studies the impact of AAE-use on the legal outcomes of African American witnesses and defendants. At Pitt, she plans to continue researching this topic and delve deeper into examining the role that syntax may play on affecting the legal outcomes of AAE-speakers.
