Hired as a program coordinator in the Less-Commonly-Taught Languages Center, Department of Linguistics in 2007, my job was to create an undergraduate Arabic certificate. A starting point was to consider the language courses that were in place, then revamp and evolve those into a new entity. Hardly a short-term plan, the process involved investigating, consulting, promoting the program and continuously evaluating and reviewing both content and methodology. This presentation describes steps followed, challenges met, and where the Arabic program is at today.
