Emma Loudermilk wins 2022 GSWS Undergraduate Paper Prize!

Emma Loudermilk was awarded the 2022 GSWS Undergraduate Paper Prize for her essay “Queering Direction: A Journey Through Lily’s Relation to Spaces in Last Night at the Telegraph Club,” which was originally prepared for a course taught by Dr. Tyler Bickford.  The selection committee members, Dr. Courtney Weikle-Mills and Dr. Ellen Lee, praised the essay's “deep engagement with Sara Ahmed’s claim that spaces are relational and therefore relevant to sexual orientation," "its sophisticated literary analysis of a contemporary text that has not received much critical attention," and its "clear and thorough" navigation of "gender, sexuality, and race.” Loudermilk is a Communication Science major in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences.

Emma was in PhD candidate Sean Nonnenmacher's Intro to Linguistics class and has been involved with his research group for several years. Shout out to Emma!
