Melinda Fricke was recently awarded an NSF grant in collaboration with Yulia Tsvetkov (Language Technologies Institute, Carnegie Mellon University) and Shuly Wintner (Department of Computer Science, University of Haifa). The three-year project, entitled “Multilingual Language Generation via Understanding of Code Switching”, will examine how computer users with different native languages engage in written code switching in an online setting. The goal of the research is to make human-computer interactions more natural, and therefore easier and more accessible, for speakers who prefer to engage in multilingual communication.
