Ph.D. candidate Shaohua Fang publishes in Frontiers in Psychology

Shaohua Fang has published a new article in the open access journal Frontiers in Psychology, in collaboration with Dr. Yi Xu of the Department of East Asian Languages & Literatures of Pitt. This paper, entitled “Processing and acquisition of temporality in L2 Mandarin Chinese: Effects of grammatical and lexical aspects”, examines the online processing and offline comprehension of the interaction between grammatical and lexical aspects in L2 Mandarin Chinese. They find that grammatical and lexical aspects interactively influence L2 processing and acquisition, and the effect of grammatical aspect is more evident in activity verbs than in accomplishment verbs. L2 proficiency and working memory capacity are also found to modulate these processes.
