PhD candidate Joe Patrick receives Boren Fellowship

With support from the David L. Boren Research Fellowship, Ph.D. candidate Joe Patrick is studying Serbian and Montenegrin language and culture in Montenegro from August 2023 to March 2024. While in Montenegro, Joe will be working on his dissertation studying language identity among speakers of Serbian and Montenegrin in Montenegro. The Boren award is a National Security Education Program initiative administered by the Institute of International Education and gives up to $25,000 for language-focused study abroad programs, particularly in critical languages. The scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students, while the fellowship goes to graduate students to help them conduct research. In exchange for this financial support, Boren recipients commit to working in the federal government for at least one year after completing their studies. More information on the award can be found at https://www.borenawards.org/
