Pitt Linguistics present at PSLLT 2023

West Lafayette, IN – Pitt Linguistics was well-represented in the 14th Annual Pronunciation in Second Language Learning and Teaching Conference held at Purdue University. Dr. Amanda Huensch, alongside Dr. Charlie Nagle (University of Texas at Austin), offered a workshop on open science for speech research, where, through a series of tasks, they encouraged participants to be part of the open science movement. Dr. Marta Ortega-Llebaria presented on the learnability of L2 rhythmic patterns in Japanese learners of English. The study, conducted alongside Dr. Jun Nagao and Dr. Leonidas Silva Jr., makes use of micro and macro rhythm measures to examine learnability. PhD student Sebastian Leal-Arenas presented his work on the teaching of Spanish prosody to English speakers: Syntactic-prosodic interface in elementary Spanish learners & Eyebrow raising and lexical stress perception in L2 Spanish. Pitt Alumna Dr. Farrah Neumann presented her research at Duolingo on the learning of phonetic contrasts from app-based HVPT training.
